O Mundo Pela Wikipédia
Some work done by Monica Stephens, Scott Hale and myself just got picked up by the Brazilian magazine Exame.
The spread offers an alternate visualisation to the data that we're collecting about the geographies of Wikipedia. It also includes penguins. I don't speak Portuguese, so am not sure what the penguins have to do with Wikipedia. But, being someone surrounded by virtual sheep, who am I to talk.
A PDF of the piece is here.

The penguins thing is indeed strange, because they never mention anything about it anywhere on the page. About Antartica, it says "the frozen continent is mentioned in more article than any country in Africa or America Latina (except Brasil)" Maybe this has something to do with it... ?
The translation (sorry for the poor english)
The global geography will be far diferent if the size of the countries were proportional to his relevance in wikipedia.
In 1.5 millions pages of the site, the Internet Institute from the Oxford University checked how many times each contry gets a citation in Wikipedia - and find that the economic weight not always translate in relevance. China - the contry with most internet users - gets a 21 place. Brasil loses for countries like Australia and Holand, with economies far less important.
In wikipedia the "emerging countries" are not emerging.
The penguins are there because they find that Antarctica is the theme of more articles than Africa ou Latin America - except from Brasil.
Explain a little, bus is still weird.
